Destination wedding bridal style: Traditional and elegant

Stephanie and Marcos' wedding day in Playa del Carmen arrived without a cloud in the sky, blessed from the start. Stephanie wore a gorgeous gown with long sleeves and a stunning train. With hair and makeup by Sara Tamargo, the bride showed off her natural beauty with elegance and style.

Elegance with a fantastic sense of humour, the portraits with the bride and her bridal party made us giggle. Stephanie is ready for her own sitcom, the wrestling poses and silly faces were simply awesome. Portrait sessions should always be this fun, a relaxed and happy bride glows!

Traditional wedding ceremony in Mexico: Great day for a white wedding

Working together with our amazing Playa del Carmen wedding vendors, we transformed the garden of Villa la Joya into a romantic white wedding setting. Pretty white everything, chairs, aisle, flowers, and oh those chandeliers! The florals with a hint of pink by Yomer Jordan Floral Designer included a square arch at the altar that framed the newlyweds perfectly.

Let the celebration begin: Stephanie and Marcos’ Villa la Joya wedding reception

Mariachis, champagne, tequila and some spectacular dance moves from the newlyweds, this was a seriously fun wedding reception. Villa la Joya was lit like a fairy tale dream, DJ Sonner was on fire and the cake by Pasteleria La Migaja was a divine creation. The sweetheart’s table was overflowing with florals and love, the neon sign was a really cool detail.

Why choose Mexico for your destination wedding?

To be completely honest, we went with Mexico as our destination wedding location because we envisioned a cozy, intimate celebration. Mexico provided the perfect balance of distance to limit the guest list while remaining within reach for our family and friends to join us without straining their budgets.

What made you decide on Villa La Joya Playa del Carmen and Villa Planners?

Just like any other couple, we fell instantly in love with the venue – it was absolutely breathtaking! But what really sold us on Villa La Joya was a story the caretaker shared while we were touring about a recent wedding. Whether he realizes it or not, his story showed us how capable Villa Planners and the Villa la Joya team are at handling any and all wedding-day craziness. It gave me complete confidence that no matter what shenanigans our wedding party or guests might get up to, we'd be well taken care of!

And for the record, we were! Nancy and the entire Villa Planner/Villa La Joya team were amazing and if we had to do it all over again we would rebook them with no hesitation!

Advice from a destination wedding bride: Villa Planners Mexico

We always ask our newly married couples if they have any advice to share about their destination wedding planning experience. We know that future brides and grooms can really benefit from the first hand experience of those who have hosted their wedding in Playa del Carmen.

Anything you would have done differently for your Villa la Joya wedding?

I spent months stressing, going through every Villa La Joya insta post and endlessly scrolling through Pinterest. But believe it or not, most of the decisions were made just two months before the wedding. While I’m not advocating leaving everything to the last minute, sometimes it’s best not to stress too much about it. Oh, and packed snacks in my bridal bag. As a stress eater, this was a big fail on my part.

Any advice you’d like to share with other brides planning a wedding in Mexico?

If you haven’t already, consider booking the nearby villas or homes listed on Airbnb! Having most of our loved ones stay within walking distance of the venue and each other added an extra layer of magic to the entire weekend. Major shoutout to our amazing Airbnb host, Gilda, who went above and beyond to accommodate my big and, well, let’s be honest, loud Mexican family.
